Did you know that London’s households throw away 910,000 tonnes of food each year? What is even more surprising is that 640,000 tonnes of that food is considered ‘avoidable’ food waste – perfectly good food which could have still been eaten.
During 2019 the London Borough of Sutton will be taking part in the Small Change, Big Difference campaign. The activity in the borough will aim to:
-promote healthy and sustainable eating
-reduce food waste
-increase food recycling
During April 2019 Sutton will be hosting a free meal event for residents. People attending the event will be provided with tips to save money, eat healthy and reduce their food waste. More information will soon be available on the Sutton Council’s website
The council will also be publishing a free booklet of tips, ideas and menus for people living, working or studying in the borough.
Environmental charity, Groundwork London will be delivering bite-sized training session for community leaders and groups to learn how to make an impact in their local area. If this sounds like you, please email mahlet.mairegu@groundwork.org.uk or call 020 7960 4283 to book a session.
