Richmond upon Thames

Yay! Richmond upon Thames Council collects food waste for recycling into energy.

Does the council collect food waste from houses, and flats in converted houses?

Yes.

Does the council collect from purpose-built flats, and flats on estates?

No, although the Council is trialling communal food waste collections to see if they can make this work for flats.

What about flats above shops?

No.

Can I get a caddy from the council?

Yes – the council provides both internal kitchen caddies and external (larger) ones. Contact the council to get caddies and an external box if you don’t have one: https://www.richmond.gov.uk/services/waste_and_recycling/order_an_item/order_a_recycling_box

Do I need to use liners? And what kind?

Yes – please only use newspaper to line your caddy and external box, or compostable starch liners, not plastic bags or biodegradable bags.

Are the liners available for free?

No – but you can buy them from supermarkets and shops around Richmond.
