Last summer (2018), London Borough of Bexley launched the Small Change, Big Difference campaign to help their residents –
– Eat healthier food
– Waste less food
– Recycle more of the inedible bits
Food for thought
When it comes to eating healthily, reducing the amount of food we waste, and recycling what’s left over, it only takes a tiny change to make a big impact. If everyone in Bexley recycled one banana skin we could turn that into enough energy to charge 463,994 mobile phones.
Bexley planned loads of events last summer:
The campaign kicked off in June and ran until the end of August (2018). They displayed posters across the borough and ran social media ads, sharing tips and small changes for people to make.
On Saturday 14 July, they ran their Good Grub Festival, from 13:00-16:30 at Hurst Community Centre grounds, Hurst Road, Bexley, DA5 3LH.
There were food stalls, cookery workshops and demonstrations as well as tips for eating healthily and using leftover food to create tasty dishes. There were also be ‘taster’ kick-boxing, circuit training and Bollywood dancing sessions.
The Waste and Recycling Team also toured the borough with their Smoothie Bike, handing out FREE smoothies, as well as offering advice about food waste recycling and how to make use of left-over food.
